Mississippi's Delta Region is the birthplace of many famous Mississippi musicians. However none may be more famous that its native son and blues legend B. B. King. Deep in the heart of the Delta region is Indianola, B. B. King's hometown. Mr. King was born in Itta Bena, near Greenwood Mississippi, but grew up in Indianola.

A Music Heritage Tour Stop

The B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center in Indianola showcases the life story of the city's beloved son and celebrates his Delta roots. The annual B. B. King Homecoming Festival held each June celebrates B. B.'s music and includes performances at Club Ebony where he became exposed to the music of Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Other Indianola landmarks from B. B. King's life include Mississippi's last brick cotten gin where her worked in the 1940s.

The B. B. King Museum makes Indianola a must see stop on Mississippi's Music Heritage Tour. However, there is more to see and experience in Indianola. The 308 Blues Club & Cafe is a Friday night hot spot for live Mississippi Delta blues entertainment. The Irene Magruder Historical Marker is the site where Irene Magruder (1898-1973) extended hospitality to Civil Rights workers during the summer of 1964. Ms. Magruder was the first African-American in Indianola to do so.
